Thrill to this puffy excerpt from a SourceEcreative.com feature article.
For many directors, dealing with actors can be as fun as swallowing drain cleaner. But for director Robert Richter, it’s one of the most rewarding aspects of his work. In fact, it’s one of the things for which he’s best known. “I love working with kids and other real people. Celebrities, athletes and other animals are fun. Actors are gifts.” Richter is known for strong performances and his 'real people' style, evident in his spots for Pledge Grab-It and his award-winning kids for Kraft Singles. Father of six and foster father of 16, Bob knows kids. Professional or amateur, Richter finds the best way to bring out a great performance is to leave room for improvisation and have fun.
Despite his success, those who work with Richter find him pleasantly lacking a huge ego. In fact, he’s known as a nice guy, what some might call a rarity in the business.
Bob thinks they may have him confused with someone else.
Bob says that apart from the writing, casting is the most important aspect of filmmaking. Working with other creative people, his style is good humored, low pressured and collaborative. He loves actors and creates a positive, improvisational tone on the set that shows on the screen.
Bob has held memberships in the Directors Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, AFTRA, American Federation of Musicians, ASCAP and the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators. He is an Emeritus Trustee of the Children’s Home & Aid Society of Illinois. He’s a former VP/Creative Director of Needham, Harper & Steers/Chicago (now DDB Worldwide,) Writer/Producer at the Leo Burnett Co. in Chicago, London and Copenhagen and Copywriter at Young & Rubicam Detroit.
His clients include ABC-TV, John Deere, S.C. Johnson, Kellogg’s, KFC, Kraft, McDonald’s, State Farm Insurance, their ad agencies and gratefully a few more.
